Buy a Gift Card

In the middle of summer; we have had staggered time off so we have been able to keep the shop open and send orders to you. It is usually calmer when it comes to orders and this year it is the same. You understand that hanging out on rubank.se is not much of a priority when you are lying on the beach, or just taking it easy with family or other friends. But then it is perfect that we tell you what you may have missed. At the beginning of the week there is clearly more to do, as you like to order things over the weekend. That meant I had more time left in the middle of the week to do things that had been lying around undone, and one of the days I took on some photography; there is an enormous list of things that need photographing. Among other things, all the books that we have collected ourselves or received as gifts from you are to be photographed for the Woodworking Bookshop's antiquarian books and the Woodworking Bookshop library; it is probably something like 100 books that we have now. And I thought I would remind you that we gladly accept woodworking-related books that you feel you no longer need or have room for. Magazines and similar things are fine too. Get in touch if you have something and we will agree on how to proceed. But this time it was product photography of the surface and finishing products from Samson Kamnik that we have received over the last months.

This is a manufacturer that is rather unknown up here in the north, but has many customers around the Mediterranean; they come from Slovenia and for a good 30 years have supplied museum staff, conservators, upholsterers, furniture and musical instrument makers. Now they also have ranges of products that are better adapted to those of us who don't need to restore a Rembrandt or a Stradivari. We try to restock with more products as we get the chance, and it would be exciting to hear what you think of the products. They have many products adapted for turning and also for furniture. We now have about 35 different products at home; even the Jojoba oil that we sell via the Maintenance and Care category is now from them. We have long talked about wanting to see what you do with the things you buy from us. We are pretty sure many of you post on various social media and it would be fun to see that. There is often an option to "tag" us when you post, for example #rubankverktygs, @rubankverktygs or similar. Then we get a ping that someone has tagged us and we can usually see it. Just keep in mind that so-called stories are only visible for 24h, so we may not have time to see them; regular posts we can look at later too. The latest tagger is Ola Ling (@olalingslojd), who posted this in a post and a story. We bow and scrape for the tag, Ola!

We thought we would start showing our gratitude for such posts, reviews or other ways you give Rubank Verktygs attention: when you order next time, write a comment that there is a mention, and we will include a small gift. I myself am packing for me and my eldest son, as we are going to a week-long scout camp tomorrow. And I thought you can't be without a bit of woodworking/sloyd, so some tools, paint and other things are coming along. We will see what comes out the other side. What will you do next, show us! Speaking of sloyd, we received a big box of Flexcut tools, so much is back in stock. Earlier Narex came with similar tools, so there is now a lot of nice stuff to use among our sloyd tools. This newsletter comes for the first time directly from our blog, Ta-i-Trä. Previously we have written them in MailChimp, a program for direct marketing such as email mailings and similar, and we have had to rework it to get it into the blog. Now we have put all of you who receive the newsletter into the blog instead, and when this post is published the idea is that it will go out as an email to you where you can read it, or come by the blog and read it there instead. We are keeping our fingers crossed that everything works as intended.

At the start of summer we received several boxes from England with M-Power Tools products, including their new double station. We are the only official reseller of M-Power Tools in Sweden. We get the deliveries, without middlemen, from the factory in England. The whole range of their diamond stones, single-sided, double-sided, side-by-side and the large one with three stones next to each other can be found with us. All kits come with a lid with leather and matching pastes and a bottle of fully synthetic lubricating oil, free from petroleum and other toxic additives. We have written this before, but it can always be said again: we like small manufacturers that go their own way and try to develop things one step further, and M-Power Tools is such a company. We are glad that we can offer them to you. I know we have many satisfied customers who use them.

Lee Valley has long made a "copy" of certain popular tools that are no longer made. Using the word copy is actually wrong; these are not simple Chinese copies, but a lot of time is spent getting a product that holds the same high quality as their new tools. We have got in more and more of these tools and have now collected them in a category of their own. We call it Replica Tools; we have no good name in Swedish. We don't like "copied tools"..
