The side-clamping honing guide design is familiar to most woodworkers. The Veritas side-clamping honing guide is a piece of modern engineering that improves on this established design while keeping its flexibility. Chisels and plane blades from 1/8" (3 mm) to 2 1/2" fit securely for accurate honing, and the unique three-point holding position holds odd shapes such as plow and shoulder plane blades.
The guide has two blade positions, upper and lower, that support most types and lengths of chisels and plane blades in a balanced, ergonomic set-up. Most woodworkers will find one position best suits their needs and build a registration jig for it. Its simplicity makes it the go-to guide for rapid, repeatable honing, and paired with a shop-built registration jig it provides a flexible sharpening set-up for most workshops.
