Tormek grindstones
Tormek grindstones are known for efficient grinding and long life. The T-8 and T-4 come with the Original Grindstone, whose surface can be changed from 220 grit to the equivalent of 1000 grit with the stone grader, so you get both stock removal and a fine finish from one stone.
The Japanese Waterstone is 4000 grit and gives a mirror finish and a razor-sharp edge.
Blackstone Silicon removes steel faster and is developed for highly alloyed steels such as HSS.
Tormek diamond wheels
Because the machines run at low speed, diamond wheels work extremely well as no heat is generated. The diamond wheels are very durable, cut consistently and always keep their full diameter, which simplifies setup when you sharpen the same tool often. They come in Coarse, Fine and Extra Fine.
With a constant diameter you can sharpen on the periphery or on the side of the wheel. Side sharpening suits small tools such as carving gouges, V-tools, knives, chisels and plane blades, and gives a completely flat bevel instead of a hollow grind. Use the MB-100 Multi Base with the appropriate jig.
