About Lie-Nielsen Toolworks
Lie-Nielsen Toolworks was founded in 1981 to make top-quality hand tools available again from a US maker, and to revive discontinued but useful designs so that the average woodworker could obtain them.
Today Lie-Nielsen makes planes, saws, spokeshaves, chisels and much more. Designs have been refined and materials improved: castings in ductile iron and manganese bronze, and blades in cryogenically treated A2 steel. The blades are much thicker than in other production planes, and the machining and finish make the tools as good to look at as they are to use.
