Easter is coming and for most of you there are several days off. Perfect for a bit of crafting! It is of course too late to buy anything from us, as we have also taken time off, but I thought I would still show a few products you may have missed. I myself had a thought of getting something done with my sons. The idea was to start already on Monday, the first day of the Easter break, but of course lots of other things came in between. There were other activities that tempted, and they naturally came first, as we can craft at other times.
The project I thought we would have made was this birdhouse that is in issue 78 of Woodworking Craft Magazine. I have subscribed to this English magazine for several years, and they have many different fun projects. Well worth a look. What will you make? You are welcome to add a picture to the post on Facebook or reply to this email. For this project we need a few different products. Wood (I thought I would take what is in the woodworking shed). Clamps for the gluing; there are different ones to choose between for the different steps. (parallel clamps) To saw the pieces you need one or more saws. Why not one of the Swedish-made fileable saws from Bahco. (hand saws) Besides glue, also use a hammer and cut nails for assembly. (hammers and mallets) I thought they could spruce up the little house a bit extra by using pyrography. (pyrography) Then of course it should have some colour, and what is better than non-toxic milk paint. (milk paint) We finish by protecting it with an oil. There are different kinds that work perfectly on top of milk paint. The linseed oil from Selder or the hemp oil from Real Milk Paint. (oils)
We are planning another order from Real Milk Paint, with several colours and other products. Is there anything special you would like us to have at home? We have been asked about pigment powder and we will bring that in. These powders can be used not only in paint but also, for example, if you want to colour concrete.
Other crafting you can do is to fix up your tools. Restoring an old saw is fun. It is actually relatively easy and you don't need many things. Something to clean the saw blade. It works perfectly with our "eraser rubber blocks" from Schleiffix. They remove most things; you have to be careful if you have etchings on the blade, as they disappear too if you rub on them. One or a couple of files, possibly a handle for the file (it works fine without). We will soon get in more accessories that may be needed when you restore your saw. I have gathered everything about Maintenance and Care in a category of its own.
And when you are done with your saw, it may be good to look over planes and chisels too. Clean and sharpen their edges. If you feel like deepening your knowledge about sharpening, there is a good book to read. A Sharpening Handbook
Getting your cutting boards in order can also be a perfect Easter craft. We naturally have accessories for that too. cutting board care Watch the video on YouTube I hope you have got a few tips for things to do over Easter. We are back on Tuesday. Have a really lovely and happy Easter!
