Veritas Hand Jointer

Box-making and modelmaking often need small parts that are too dangerous to run through a power jointer and awkward to joint with a hand plane, since balancing a plane on pieces much smaller than its sole is difficult. This accessory for the Veritas medium and large shoulder planes lets you bring the work to the plane instead, for better control of the cut.

The 10" × 2" low-friction HDPE fence makes it easy to align work square to the blade. Multiple mounting holes let you set the plane for right- or left-hand use, secured through the through-hole with a brass knob. The large lower panel gives plenty of area for clamping the jointer horizontally to a bench or vertically in a front vise blade-up, as coopers did when jointing barrel staves. A pocket with a rare-earth magnet holds a spare blade, such as one sharpened at a higher bevel angle for highly figured wood.
