Lie-Nielsen shoulder planes are based on the Preston and Record designs, made with modern materials and improved finish, precision and feel. A shoulder plane is used for trimming and fitting tenons, dadoes, rabbets and the like.
The bronze lever cap is slightly taller for a better grip and sits closer to the bevel of the blade. The mouth is adjustable with a screw at the front of the plane and locks securely. The thick blade minimises chatter for the best results.
The ductile iron body is accurately ground square. The A2 blade is hardened to approximately Rc 60-62, cryogenically treated and double tempered for long edge life. Bevel 25°, bed angle 18°.
