Hardened to Rc58-60, it is substantially harder than the scrapers it is used on. The 5/16" diameter A2 tool steel rod is 4 3/4" long, giving ample length to hold burnishing angles. With the beech handle it is about 9 5/8" long overall. Made in Canada.

A card scraper is a thin steel plate that scrapes smooth surfaces, especially on difficult wood. It is sharpened in three steps: the edge is filed straight, honed smooth and then turned into a small burr with a burnisher. The burr is what cuts.
