Lie-Nielsen No. 71 large router plane with closed throat.
A router plane is a great tool for working shallow mortises: hinge gains, inlay, door locks, trimming tenons and the like. Lie-Nielsen router planes are loosely based on earlier Stanley models, but with an improved depth stop and adjuster. Also, the blade is held solidly in the body in a square broached hole (blades will not fit original Stanleys).
Specifications:
Ductile iron body, O-1 blade
8 1/4" (20.95 cm) long x 3 1/2" (8.89 cm) wide x 3 3/4" (9.52 cm) tall

The open throat design offers more visibility in front of the tool. The closed throat design is ideal for working on the edges of boards or cleaning out the end of a stopped groove in a rail or stile.
The Lie-Nielsen Router Plane Adapter allows you to use the specialty blades for the Small Router Plane in the Large Router Plane.

Yes. All Lie-Nielsen planes are supplied complete and ready to use, with frog, chip breaker and a lapped A2 blade. You do not need to buy the blade separately.
Iron body means the plane body is cast iron, as opposed to the bronze models. PM-V11 is not available for Lie-Nielsen, as it is Veritas' own steel. The plane comes in a brown box with the Lie-Nielsen logo on the lid, which is easy to gift wrap.
Yes, much of what you do with a router can be done with hand planes, quietly and without dust:
Router plane – flat bottoms in recesses, housings and inlays
Plough plane – grooves along the grain
Shoulder plane and rebate plane – rebates and tenons
Hand tools come in fewer sizes than router bits, so you have to adapt the dimensions to the blades available. In return you get full control and can work anywhere.
