With this equipment you can sharpen almost every type of knife, including kitchen knives, and axes. Sharpening with Tormek is safe and gives your tools a long-lasting razor edge. For more detailed information about the machine, see the product page for Tormek T-4.
Both machines sharpen all common edge tools with the same jig system. The difference is in size and capacity:
Tormek T-4 – 200 mm grindstone, 120 W motor for intermittent use (30 min per hour), weighs 8 kg. For home and hobby use.
Tormek T-8 – 250 mm grindstone, solid cast housing with minimal play and an industrial motor for continuous use, weighs 14.8 kg. For those who sharpen a lot.
The T-8 Custom is a T-8 without stone and honing wheel, so you choose your own. The T-4 Bushcraft is a T-4 with a knife jig and axe jig in the box.
First choose the right grindstone size: 200 mm for the T-4 and 250 mm for the T-8. Then choose by what you sharpen:
Original grindstone SG – an all-round stone supplied with the machine. With the SP-650 stone grader you change the surface from 220 grit to about 1000 grit.
Blackstone Silicon SB – for high-speed steel (HSS), such as turning tools
Japanese water stone SJ – 4000 grit for a polished, razor-sharp edge
Diamond wheel DC, DF or DE – 360, 600 or 1200 grit, for any material including ceramics and carbide. Use the ACC-150 anti-corrosion concentrate in the water.
The jigs are usually not included with the machine; you choose them by the tools you want to sharpen. All jigs fit both the T-4 and the T-8:
SE-77 – chisels and plane blades with a straight or slightly cambered edge
KJ-45 and KJ-140 – centring knife jigs for symmetrical bevels
SVD-186R – turning gouges, carving gouges and V-tools
SVS-50 – skew chisels, parting tools and carving tools
AX-40 – axes
SVX-150 and SC-60 – scissors
SVH-320 – planer blades
DBS-22 – twist drills 3–22 mm
The HTK-906 and TNT-808 kits collect the most common jigs for hand tools and woodturning respectively.
