Veritas mortise chisels have blades over 1/2" thick and the same width from tip to shoulder for accurate mortises. The sides are slightly relieved to reduce friction. The primary bevel is 25° with a 35° secondary bevel, and the heel is rounded to lever out waste smoothly. The torrefied maple handle is shaped for the hand and has a stainless steel hoop to resist mallet blows. Only final honing is needed before use.
