This Saturday we have Open House again, the first of this year. For those of you who are new, we have for some years had Saturday opening on the last Saturday of the month in spring and autumn. It usually ends up being 8 or 9 occasions each year. We open at 10 and close at 14, but that rarely holds, as there are customers who stroll around among the shelves a while longer. If you drop by there is a chance to see and test all the products we sell, and to make it even more worth coming by we try to have an invited exhibitor/manufacturer/private person who shows/tells/makes something and answers questions. This time it is about saws, so if you have questions about hand saws, how to look after them and so on, there is a good chance of getting answers. We have also felt that we need to renew ourselves a bit; we fixed the website last month and now there is a bit of rebuilding in the shop. Nothing earth-shattering, but we are moving things around a bit and hope it turns out better. Since we want you to be able to try what you are interested in or just learn how to use a tool, we are making more room for that.
In the new Woodworking Shed there are Sjöbergs benches and it is well stocked with tools and materials to use. We are also arranging part of the space with a bench where we show how to look after your tools, where there are spare parts for planes and saws. We can show how to look after your tools. Or if you want to know how to, for example, file your saw.
The other department getting a small facelift is the Band-Aid department, where you make your tools sharp. Try the different honing jigs, different materials or whether to go the hand or machine route. Otherwise there are, from before, the Woodworking Bookshop with all the books, the Beauty Department with everything needed for finishing and surface treatment, and the Workshop where machines and accessories are. We have a bunch of deliveries on their way to us, I don't know which will make it by Saturday, but some of what is coming is Veritas, Lost Art Press, Knew, Benchdogs UK, Piher. From Veritas it is a restock of products that are sold out, but also a bit of news. We get the latest miniature tools, a saw, a workbench with accessories.
We also continue to get in LeeValley's replicas of older tools, this time the Stanley #50 honing jig. A simple jig that has existed since the 1940s.
From Lost Art Press quite a lot of new things are coming, the latest books and more tools.
From Piher we get their quick clamps in different sizes and designs.
And from Benchdogs UK a new batch of the Quad Hinge system and other products is coming.
It has now been just over 2 months since we changed the server for the website and we hope you notice that it is faster and so on. We are working on getting all parts in order; there were some problems with the move, but large parts are running as they should. We are extremely grateful if you get in touch with problems you find on the site. We know there are a lot of products and sometimes it isn't the easiest to find what you are looking for; we feel the same, and quite a lot of work is going into it: we clean up, move and improve, and we have put the main categories on the first page. There you can click through to see what is there. The shop is based on these categories and it is often the easiest way to find something when you don't know what it is called.
If you go via the menu (the blue one on the page) it is easy to miss the products that sit in the main categories, the products that don't quite fit in any category. Sometimes it becomes odd to have one or two products in a category of their own, so they get to lie under the first one. If you choose "Show more ..", the blue text, you get to the first category.
If you go via the pictures, you end up in the same place as via the blue link.
