A little tired after a marathon broadcast from Eurovision; even if you didn't watch, you have surely picked up that wood is nice. Sauna benches have lit up the TV screens during KAJ's pleasant, humming Finland-Swedish "Bara Bada Bastu". Now we also know the result, and after interpreting it I see it as us getting the most points from countries that like wood and woodcraft (not that they like taking saunas, or do they?). What do flying dragons or flapping aeroplanes have against spruces, birch logs and wood stacks? More natural materials for the people!

But why not build your own sauna? Only your imagination sets the limit, they can look any way at all, and if you heat it with electricity it can also be located anywhere (almost). In the discussion of wood versus electric, though, I come down on the side of electric, since it is more fun to do woodwork with the wood than to burn it. If you want to try building a sauna, we have a nice book about it in our Woodworking Bookshop: Bygga bastu (Building a Sauna)

On Saturday 24 May we hold our traditional Saturday opening, normally the last Saturday of the month, but this time we have chosen the week before since the last weekend is a long weekend. We have had this tradition for a very long time, at least since 2017-2018, with the exception of the pandemic years. Every time we tried to have an extra event so visitors could see or learn something new; it could be a visit from manufacturers or craftspeople who showed off their craft. We want to start this up again now that we have our new premises, which are better suited to these things. We have a larger area for demonstrations and more room for visitors. We have talked to a few people about whether they would like to come and show their craft ahead of the autumn, but we would like to send out an open request to all of you. If you work with, or in your spare time do, something involving wood or other crafts and would consider showing it off on a Saturday during the autumn in our shop in Västberga in Stockholm, get in touch. Or if you know someone who would suit, contact us and we will reach out. If many want to come we will increase the number of Saturdays so we can include everyone.

We continue to fill the shop with goods that were sold out during the move. Most recently it is Tormek that has been unpacked. I think we are the only shop in the Mälardalen region with their whole range for sale over the counter. The latest addition is their TF-2. With the TF-2 Tilt Feet the T-8 is tilted slightly, which lets water run from the tool back to the water trough via the drip guard for long tools. This closed circuit ensures consistent performance and prevents mess and wasted product. In other words – no more puddles when you sharpen long tools. Tormek TF-2 Tilt Feet

During Easter week I went away with the family on a little trip around the western Mediterranean. A recharge trip after a tough winter. I think it is so nice to see different local craftspeople working in wood and that the tradition lives on in times of more throwaway products. Like the picture above, a simple family tree, where you saw the crown into as many pieces as there are members of the family. Or the German company that sells Christmas things all year round; we visited the shop in Barcelona. Wonderful to see all the wooden products, often made in Germany or nearby countries. I was very impressed by the cuckoo clocks hanging on a couple of the walls.

We are also fixing up the shop; you keep seeing new things you can change or improve. Most recently the somewhat duller but important job of the area where we pack your orders. We got a checkout counter done at the same time. It turned out really well, if I may say so myself.

With that, we say thanks for this time. See you again via one of our social channels or if you come to visit the shop.
