The LA-120 is delivered with two standard discs: one with a 3 mm (1/8") radius for gouges and one with a 60° tip for V-tools. They are used together with the Tormek PA-70 Honing Compound. When the discs are new, impregnate them with a few drops of light machine oil before applying the honing compound.
The leather discs are exchangeable, so you can easily replace a worn disc with the LA-122 set of standard exchange discs. Narrower profiles are also available, see LA-124. It is also possible to mount two LA-120, one with standard profiles and one with narrow discs, giving access to four profiles at the same time.
The leather is provided by the tannery Tärnsjö Garveri in Sweden, which has tanned and processed leather for over 140 years and is today one of the few tanneries that tan their leather completely with natural products.
There are several good ways to sharpen chisels and plane irons: water stones, diamond stones, oil stones and sharpening machines such as Tormek. All give sharp edges, but they differ in speed, maintenance and price.
