Veritas Spokeshave Hardware Kit, Large

Traditional wooden spokeshaves are still popular, despite modern alternatives that offer better control over depth of cut. Typical spokeshave blades have tangs that wedge into holes in the body, and cut depth is adjusted by tapping the tangs or the blade, usually with a screwdriver or by removing the blade.

With this Veritas kit and basic woodworking skills, you can build a spokeshave with a simple, effective depth adjustment that requires no blade removal or tools. The large size is a good general-purpose tool. A small kit is also available for finer detail work.

The kit includes an A2 steel blade, 2-3/4" wide x 1/8" thick (4" x 11/16" overall), a brass wear strip, two brass lock nuts and adjustment thumb wheels, a tap and instructions. You provide and shape the wood of your choice; the minimum blank size is 11" x 1-1/2" x 7/8".
