It is a relatively vertical handle, designed for a comfortable grip that keeps your forearm closer to parallel with the sole. This lets you bring more forward force to bear, because it encourages you to push with the heel of your hand rather than the web of your thumb.
The tote is available in three sizes to fit your hand. Measure the width of your palm along your knuckles: up to 3" for small, 3-1/8" to 3-7/8" for medium and 4" or larger for large.
All totes are made from domestic torrefied maple, wood treated with a heating process that changes its structure at the cellular level, stabilizing it against the swelling and shrinkage caused by humidity changes.

Which plane to start with depends on what you will do, but for most people a smoothing plane (No. 4) or a jack plane (No. 5) is a good first choice. The smoothing plane gives smooth surfaces, and the jack plane is a versatile plane for both rough work and truing edges.
