Fence for the right-hand Veritas skew block plane, sized specifically for that plane. With the fence fitted it is easy to plane rebates of consistent width.
The fence is hardwood and slides on a collet held by a large brass locking knob, so the width can be changed quickly. The base is tapped so you can fit your own extension, such as a wooden wedge.
Fits the right-hand skew block plane, with or without blade. A separate left-hand fence is available for the left-hand plane.

Which plane to start with depends on what you will do, but for most people a smoothing plane (No. 4) or a jack plane (No. 5) is a good first choice. The smoothing plane gives smooth surfaces, and the jack plane is a versatile plane for both rough work and truing edges.
