Bertil Fridhagen and the Småland furniture town of Bodafors are forever linked.
Fridhagen was born, worked and lived his entire life there, although his professional career took him out into the world for short periods: training, work, exhibitions, commissions. He was the cabinetmaker who became one of Sweden's foremost furniture designers.
Fridhagen is a tangible part of our proud furniture history. Behind the string of international awards was a knowledge of the entire process of furniture production with insights into materials, technology and development. Fridhagen's creations also became a picture of the passage of time; the new inventions that also placed new demands on the function of the furniture.
Fridhagen lived with the times and the changes in development. Throughout his life he also felt a strong loyalty to Bodafors and the furniture factories there.
This is the first major work on Bertil Fridhagen's "furniture life", with a rich visual material.
Sigrid Eklund Nyström lives in Stockholm and has worked at the Nordic Museum for many years. She is an expert on furniture and her most recent book was about a colleague of Fridhagen's, Axel Larsson: furniture designer and interior designer for five decades (2013).
