With a drill chuck in the tailstock you can drill accurately through the centre of the work on the lathe. It holds drill bits, expansive cutters, Forstner bits and other hexagonal-shank bits.
It can also sit in the headstock to hold small work such as pen blanks. Precision-made jaws give a central grip.
