Tapered wooden pegs, sometimes called wooden nails, have been used for centuries in everything from furniture making to timber construction and have a well-earned reputation as strong, versatile fasteners. They are made in Japan by a company specialising in traditional Japanese woodworking tools and supplies.
The tapered shank gives a wedging action that resists withdrawal and holds far better than dowels in both hard and soft woods. Once in place and trimmed, they can be planed, sanded, stained or finished with the surrounding wood. Since they have no flutes, applied glue is largely driven into the joint, giving a strong bond with minimal clean-up. Drive them into slightly undersized holes; the sizes are made to match standard drill sizes.
Available in three sizes.
