This new deluxe edition of "With All the Precision Possible: Roubo on Furniture" reflects more than a decade of work by an international team that produced the first English translation of André-Jacob Roubo's 18th-century masterpiece "L'Art du Menuisier". The translation covers Roubo's writing on tools, the workshop, joinery and furniture making.
In addition to the translated text and colour images from the original, the book includes five contemporary essays by Christopher Schwarz, Don Williams, Michael Mascelli, Philippe Lafargue and Jonathan Thornton. Unlike many 18th-century writers, Roubo was a trained and practising joiner. He interviewed craftsmen from other trades and learned to draw, so almost all the illustrations are his own. The book is therefore full of insights that are hard or impossible to find in old or modern woodworking books.
This is the third version of the book; all three have the same words, drawings and images. The first deluxe edition (11" × 17" in a slipcase) and the second (8-1/2" × 12", black and white) are sold out. This edition is a manageable size, printed in full colour on coated paper with other material upgrades.
