These punches make it easy to cut square holes up to 3/8" deep in softwood or hardwood, typically for square plugs in decorative work such as Greene & Greene style furniture.
Drill a hole 3/64" smaller than the punch and position the punch over the hole; a few hammer taps cut it square, with smooth walls and 90° corners. The tips are machined and ground from hardened O1 tool steel (Rc 48-52) on shanks of softer steel for shock absorption. The shanks are black-oxide finished to resist rust and grooved for grip. Made in Canada.
A pair of cone-shaped diamond hones for easy sharpening of the punches is available separately.
