C6-15 Lockbettel with 15mm width Smitt laminated blade with two layers of steel, handle in white oak.The hard edge steel is hardened to HRC64-65 hardness, i.e. very hard ! The steel is called "Blue Paper Steel". The second part of the steel laminate is softer steel and "carries" the layer where the edge is. This is a precision tool used as a carving iron, for example, to cut deep and narrow holes in wood, for example, for mortise and tenon joints or for a locking piston. The lock bit is characterised by the fact that the edge is ground on the narrow side of the blade. Considerably greater breaking and striking forces are then withstood than with an equally wide chisel where the edge is ground on the broad side of the blade. The name lockbettel comes from the German Lochbeitel, i.e. "hole chisel", the English Mortise chisel, the Japanese TATEGUYA nomi
