Lee Valley vise rack stop. When work is clamped at one end of a vise, the jaws tend to rack. Stacking shims into the vise opposite the clamped work keeps the jaws aligned as force is applied. The shims sit on a shaft, are 5 1/2" long and 0.10" thick, and stack to a total thickness of up to 4".
For thicker work, fill most of the gap with scrap lumber and use the rack stop for the rest.
The shims are high-density polyethylene that resists stains and adhesives, the shaft is tension-adjustable steel and the end knobs are hard maple. Made in Canada.
