Simply make a strop from close-grained hardwood or MDF, or use a steel honing plate, apply a few drops of paste, and use it as you would a sharpening stone.
Composed of monocrystalline diamond in a mineral oil base, the paste embeds in the surface, abrading quickly but lasting a long time.
Begin with the grit that corresponds to your finest stone and progress to finer paste: 5–7 µm following a fine stone, then 3–5 µm, and 0–2 µm to provide a mirror finish.
